Responsibilities
- Phlebotomy Procedures: Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages, ensuring accuracy and patient comfort.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and transport blood samples to the laboratory in accordance with strict quality control standards.
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients, verify medical information, and explain procedures to alleviate anxiety.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and sterilize phlebotomy equipment, and ensure inventory levels of supplies are sufficient.
- Record Keeping: Accurately document patient data, test results, and collection notes in the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
- Emergency Response: Handle unexpected medical situations, such as fainting patients or difficult draws, with composure and safety protocols.
- Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with nurses, lab technicians, and physicians to ensure seamless patient care.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification (e.g., ASCP, NHA) required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred; new graduates with externships may be considered.
- Licensure: Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is a plus.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong focus on customer service.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform fine motor skills.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail regarding specimen labeling and patient safety.
