Responsibilities
- Patient Preparation: Greet patients, verify demographic information, and prepare them for examination by escorting them to the exam room and updating medical histories.
- Clinical Support: Assist providers during patient visits by taking vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature) and preparing examination rooms with necessary instruments.
- Procedural Assistance: Perform basic laboratory procedures, including venipuncture (blood draws), EKGs, and point-of-care testing, adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Record Management: Accurately document patient encounters, update medical records in the EMR system, and prepare correspondence or referrals as needed.
- Administrative Duties: Schedule patient appointments, manage incoming calls, and assist with insurance verification and prior authorizations.
- Compliance & Safety: Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized clinic environment while strictly adhering to HIPAA regulations and infection control standards.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, NCMA, or equivalent) is required.
- Licensure: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in a physician practice or urgent care setting is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner).
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients of all backgrounds.
