Responsibilities
- Accurately code medical diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
- Submit clean claims to insurance companies and government payers (Medicare/Medicaid)
- Manage accounts receivable and follow up on denied or unpaid claims
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits coverage
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and billing documentation standards
- Resolve billing discrepancies through effective communication with providers and payers
- Generate monthly reports on billing performance and key metrics
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field
- Certification as CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
- Minimum 3 years of medical billing experience in a healthcare setting
- Proficiency in medical billing software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or NextGen)
- Strong knowledge of insurance claim processes and reimbursement methodologies
