Responsibilities
- Accurately submit and follow up on medical claims with insurance carriers (BCBS, Aetna, United, etc.) to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to rendering services to minimize denials.
- Manage the accounts receivable (A/R) process, including posting payments and resolving outstanding balances.
- Review and audit billing records to ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal coding standards.
- Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to resolve billing inquiries.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines and healthcare reimbursement policies.
Qualifications
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or COC (Certified Outpatient Coder) certification preferred, or equivalent billing experience.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and collections within a healthcare setting.
- Proficient in medical billing software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, AthenaHealth, or similar EMR systems).
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to detect and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on customer service.
