Responsibilities
- Review and verify medical records, charge sheets, and super bills to ensure accuracy before billing.
- Submit claims to insurance companies (Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) and follow up on denials and rejections.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits to prevent claim denials.
- Communicate with patients and insurance carriers regarding outstanding balances and payment plans.
- Maintain and update patient financial records in the practice management system.
- Prepare monthly reports on accounts receivable and revenue collection.
- Stay current with coding updates (ICD-10, CPT) and healthcare regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration or Medical Billing preferred.
- Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CMA, or RHIA is a plus but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Proficiency in medical billing software (e.g., AthenaHealth, Epic, or equivalent).
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a flexible environment.
