Responsibilities
- Submit and follow up on claims with insurance payers (CMS-1500 forms) to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and gather necessary documentation prior to services rendered.
- Review denied or rejected claims to identify root causes and resubmit for payment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records and billing files.
- Reconcile accounts and prepare monthly financial reports for management review.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding outstanding balances and payment plans.
- Stay current with changing healthcare regulations, coding updates, and payer policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree or certification (CCS, CPC, CPC-H) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing or a related healthcare administrative role.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, or Cerner) is highly desirable.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic billing systems.
