Responsibilities
- Claims Management: Accurately review medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT coding to prepare claims for submission.
- Payer Submission: Submit claims to various insurance payers (Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) via electronic and paper methods.
- Denial Management: Monitor claim status, follow up on unpaid or denied claims, and appeal rejections to ensure full reimbursement.
- Eligibility Verification: Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services rendered to prevent claim denials.
- Account Reconciliation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient billing records and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Compliance: Adhere to HIPAA regulations and internal compliance policies throughout the billing process.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree in Medical Billing, Health Information Technology, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Certification: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRC) is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in EMR/EHR software (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and healthcare reimbursement models.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills.
- Regulatory: Solid knowledge of HIPAA compliance and healthcare billing regulations.
