Responsibilities
- Review and code medical records for accuracy using ICD-10 and CPT coding standards.
- Submit accurate claims to insurance carriers (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial) and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and obtain necessary authorizations prior to services.
- Manage patient billing inquiries and resolve complex billing discrepancies or denials.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to resolve payment issues and improve revenue cycle efficiency.
- Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to document billing activities and updates.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration or Medical Billing preferred.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certification is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding (1-3 years preferred).
- Proficiency with medical billing software and EHR systems (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner).
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
