Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient demographic and insurance information for accuracy.
- Prepare and submit medical claims to insurance carriers (CMS-1500 and electronic).
- Follow up on outstanding claims, denials, and appeals to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Maintain and update patient records and billing files in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Communicate with patients regarding outstanding balances and payment plans.
- Utilize EHR systems and billing software to track financial performance.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Previous experience in medical billing, coding, or healthcare administration (2+ years preferred).
- Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Proficiency in medical billing software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner) is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of insurance carriers, payer guidelines, and reimbursement processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- CPC or CEMC certification is highly desirable.
