Responsibilities
- Claims Management: Accurately prepare and submit medical claims (ICD-10 and CPT) to insurance payers in a timely manner to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Patient Billing: Handle patient billing inquiries, generate invoices, and explain financial responsibilities to patients with empathy and clarity.
- Denial Management: Analyze denied or rejected claims, identify root causes, and appeal decisions to maximize revenue collection.
- Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services rendered to prevent claim denials.
- Account Reconciliation: Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal compliance standards.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing or Health Information Management preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in a physician practice or billing service.
- Certification: CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CBCS (Certified Billing and Coding Specialist) credential is a plus but not mandatory.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in medical billing software (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth, Cerner) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to detect errors in data entry and documentation.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with patients and insurance adjusters effectively.
