Responsibilities
- Accurately submit and follow up on medical claims to insurance carriers (BCBS, Medicare, Medi-Cal, etc.) to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and collect necessary co-pays and deductibles prior to services.
- Manage accounts receivable, identify outstanding balances, and follow up on delinquent accounts.
- Review denied or rejected claims, identify root causes, and resubmit corrected claims with supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and billing documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding billing questions, statements, and payment plans.
- Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and all state/federal healthcare billing laws.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Medical Billing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification (CPC, CMBS, CBCS) is a strong plus but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management.
- Proficiency with medical billing software (Epic, Athenahealth, Cerner, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems and medical terminology.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage high volumes of data.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
