Responsibilities
- Verify patient demographics and insurance eligibility to prevent claim denials.
- Accurately assign medical codes (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) to patient records.
- Prepare and submit claims to various insurance payers (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare).
- Monitor claims status in clearinghouses and follow up on unpaid or rejected claims.
- Research and resolve complex billing issues and payer inquiries.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding account balances and payment arrangements.
- Maintain accurate billing logs and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
- Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or RHIT is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, coding, or revenue cycle management.
- Strong understanding of healthcare reimbursement models and billing guidelines.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Epic, AthenaHealth, or Cerner.
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with a flexible schedule and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
