Responsibilities
- Verify and code medical records accurately using ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Submit and follow up on claims with insurance companies (e.g., Blue Cross, Medicare, Medi-Cal) to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Manage patient accounts, handle billing inquiries, and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Review denied claims, identify root causes, and resubmit appeals as necessary.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and coding updates.
- Collaborate with the accounts receivable team to improve cash flow and reduce outstanding balances.
- Generate and analyze monthly billing reports to identify trends and optimize revenue cycle performance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing, Health Information Technology, or related field preferred.
- Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CPC-H, or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) is a strong plus.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, specifically Epic or Cerner.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Exceptional attention to detail and high accuracy in data entry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
