Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to the start of services to prevent billing issues.
- Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Prepare and submit claims to various payers (Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) through clearinghouses.
- Monitor claims status and follow up on denied, rejected, or pending claims to ensure reimbursement.
- Manage patient billing statements, handle payment collections, and resolve billing inquiries.
- Collaborate with the billing team to analyze revenue cycles and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or COC (Certified Outpatient Coder) is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience in medical billing and coding.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding standards and medical terminology.
- Proficiency with medical billing software (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth, Cerner) and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines.
