Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient demographics and medical records for accuracy before billing.
- Assign accurate medical codes (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) to diagnoses and procedures.
- Submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance payers electronically.
- Monitor claim status and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to secure reimbursement.
- Maintain accurate billing logs and reconcile accounts receivable.
- Assist patients with billing inquiries and provide explanations of benefits (EOB).
- Stay updated on changing healthcare regulations and coding updates.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Certification (CPC, CBA, RHIA, or RHIT) is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing or coding.
- Proficient in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Billing Software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner).
- Strong working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
