Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to rendering services.
- Accurately prepare and submit medical claims (ICD-10 and CPT codes) to insurance carriers.
- Monitor claims status and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Manage patient billing inquiries, address payment discrepancies, and collect outstanding balances.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Stay current with healthcare regulations, payer policies, and compliance standards (HIPAA).
- Collaborate with the billing team to optimize revenue cycle performance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing/Coding preferred.
- Certification such as CPC, COC, or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) is a plus.
- Proven experience in medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management.
- Strong working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in data entry.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to resolve patient issues professionally.
