Responsibilities
- Perform Venipunctures: Execute routine blood draws and capillary collections with a focus on patient comfort and anatomical accuracy.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and transport blood specimens to the laboratory in compliance with chain-of-custody protocols.
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients warmly, explain procedures clearly, and answer questions to alleviate anxiety during the collection process.
- Compliance & Safety: Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and OSHA safety standards to ensure a safe environment for both patients and staff.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain adequate supplies of phlebotomy tubes, needles, and other consumables.
- Documentation: Accurately record patient information and collection results in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Phlebotomy Technologist (PBT) certification from an accredited body.
- Experience: 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred; entry-level candidates with strong clinical externships may be considered.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex medical instructions in simple terms.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and perform fine motor tasks.
- Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association is required.
