Responsibilities
- Perform Venipunctures: Accurately draw blood samples from patients using various techniques, including venipuncture and capillary collection.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and prepare blood specimens for laboratory analysis according to strict protocols.
- Patient Interaction: Interact professionally with patients of all ages, ensuring their comfort and privacy during the collection process.
- Verification: Verify patient identification and ensure all necessary consent forms and paperwork are completed accurately.
- Infection Control: Adhere to strict safety and hygiene standards to prevent infection and ensure a safe environment for both staff and patients.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and sterilize phlebotomy equipment and work areas in accordance with health regulations.
- Documentation: Update patient charts and log data into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED is required.
- Certification: Current Phlebotomy certification (e.g., ASPT, NHA, ASCP) is preferred but not mandatory as we provide training.
- Skills: Basic computer literacy and the ability to navigate electronic medical records systems.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and perform fine motor skills.
- Personality: Compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills to interact effectively with patients and medical staff.
