Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures following strict aseptic protocols
- Process, label, and transport specimens to the laboratory with chain-of-custody documentation
- Verify patient identification and maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR)
- Prepare and maintain phlebotomy equipment including needles, tubes, and antiseptic supplies
- Provide patient education during blood collection procedures to reduce anxiety
- Adhere to HIPAA compliance and OSHA safety regulations at all times
- Collaborate with nursing staff and laboratory personnel for efficient workflow
Qualifications
- Current Phlebotomy Technician certification (ASCP, NCCT, or equivalent)
- Minimum 1 year of clinical phlebotomy experience
- Proficiency in venipuncture, capillary draws, and pediatric collection techniques
- Strong knowledge of bloodborne pathogen protocols and infection control
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to calm anxious patients
- High school diploma or GED required
- Basic computer skills for EHR documentation
- Tennessee state phlebotomy license (if applicable)
