Responsibilities
- Perform Clinical Draws: Expertly collect blood samples via venipuncture and capillary puncture using proper aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients, verify identities, and explain procedures clearly to minimize anxiety and ensure comfort.
- Specimen Processing: Label, process, and transport specimens accurately to the laboratory for testing while adhering to chain-of-custody regulations.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and sterilize phlebotomy equipment, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for all patients and staff.
- Data Entry: Accurately document patient information and collection results into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Infection Control: Strictly adhere to OSHA and HIPAA guidelines to protect patient privacy and workplace safety.
- Cross-Training: Assist with other clinical support duties as needed to support the laboratory team.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP, NHA) or equivalent is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in a hospital or outpatient setting preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is a plus.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of anatomy, venipuncture techniques, and specimen handling.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse patient populations.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in labeling, data entry, and patient identification.
- Licensure: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
