Responsibilities
- Perform routine venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages (pediatric to geriatric) with a high degree of technical accuracy and patient comfort.
- Label, process, and transport blood specimens to the laboratory in strict adherence to HIPAA and CLIA regulations.
- Greet patients, verify identification, and explain procedures to alleviate anxiety and ensure informed consent.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques and inventory management of phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) and laboratory information systems.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff to ensure seamless patient flow and timely test results.
- Handle and dispose of biohazardous waste and sharps in compliance with safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification required by state licensure board.
- High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of recent clinical experience in a hospital, outpatient, or urgent care setting.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to de-escalate difficult patient situations with professionalism and empathy.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs as necessary.
