Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with precision and minimal discomfort.
- Label, process, and prepare blood samples for laboratory testing according to strict HIPAA and CLIA regulations.
- Verify patient identity and explain procedures to alleviate anxiety and ensure informed consent.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and specimen logs in the laboratory information system.
- Ensure the cleanliness and sterilization of phlebotomy equipment and workstations to prevent contamination.
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and laboratory technologists to ensure timely delivery of critical results.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new phlebotomy staff and students.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or State Certification required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in a hospital or outpatient setting preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
