Responsibilities
- Sample Collection: Perform venipunctures and capillary draws on patients of all ages with minimal discomfort and maximum accuracy.
- Quality Assurance: Label, log, and prepare blood specimens for laboratory analysis in strict accordance with safety protocols.
- Patient Interaction: Comfort patients, explain procedures, and answer questions to alleviate anxiety during the collection process.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, logs, and medical histories.
- Equipment Maintenance: Properly sterilize and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels of test kits and consumables, notifying supervisors of shortages.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all HIPAA regulations, OSHA standards, and laboratory accreditation requirements.
Qualifications
- Certification: Must hold a current Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) from an accredited body (e.g., ASCP, NHA).
- Licensure: Valid state license to practice phlebotomy in Texas is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in venipuncture techniques and handling various collection equipment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a patient-centric approach.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move patients if necessary.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is a plus.
