Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with precision, accuracy, and minimal discomfort.
- Verify patient identity using two identifiers and ensure proper specimen labeling to maintain strict chain of custody.
- Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment, centrifuges, and automated analyzers in a sterile environment.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare staff to ensure seamless patient flow and care coordination.
- Document patient history, collection times, and test results accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP).
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Phlebotomy Technologist (PT) certification required.
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred but willing to train new graduates with certifications.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate, patient-first approach.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
