Responsibilities
- Perform Venipuncture: Safely and efficiently draw blood samples from patients using aseptic techniques and proper venipuncture methods.
- Patient Interaction: Provide a reassuring and professional experience for patients of all ages, explaining procedures clearly to reduce anxiety.
- Specimen Management: Accurately label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory for analysis while maintaining chain-of-custody protocols.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records, test requisitions, and electronic health records (EHR).
- Infection Control: Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and laboratory standards to ensure a sterile environment.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and restock supplies, ensuring that phlebotomy stations are fully equipped and ready for use.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) required.
- Licensure: Active Louisiana State Phlebotomy license.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is highly preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a clinical setting, hospital, or diagnostic laboratory is preferred.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and a strong customer service orientation.
