Responsibilities
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies according to strict protocols
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, sutures, and sterile supplies
- Maintain sterile field integrity and enforce aseptic techniques throughout operations
- Count and document all surgical instruments, sponges, and needles before and after procedures
- Operate specialized equipment including endoscopic cameras, electrosurgical units, and robotic systems
- Collaborate with anesthesia and nursing teams to ensure coordinated patient care
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and surgical team debriefings
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
- Minimum 2 years of recent OR experience in Level I trauma center
- Current BLS certification with ability to obtain ACLS within 6 months
- Proficiency in sterile processing and HIPAA compliance protocols
- Knowledge of surgical procedures across multiple specialties (general, ortho, neuro)
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift 50+ pounds
- Excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations
- Associates degree in Surgical Technology or related field preferred
