Responsibilities
- Preoperative Preparation: Prepare operating rooms with necessary instruments, sutures, sterile drapes, and equipment according to surgical protocols.
- Assist During Surgery: Pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures, anticipating their needs to ensure efficiency.
- Sterile Field Maintenance: Maintain a sterile environment by monitoring patient temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate, and ensuring proper positioning and draping.
- Specimen Management: Properly label and transport tissue specimens to the pathology department for analysis.
- Instrument Care: Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to ensure nothing is left in the patient.
- Postoperative Care: Assist with moving patients to recovery rooms and ensuring the operating room is cleaned and restocked for the next procedure.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with the nursing staff, anesthesiologists, and surgeons regarding patient status and surgical needs.
Qualifications
- Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification required.
- Education: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a hospital or surgical center setting preferred.
- Licensure: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to maintain a sterile field and adhere to strict safety and hygiene standards.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move patients, and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a diverse healthcare team.
