Responsibilities

  • Preoperative Preparation: Prepare operating rooms with necessary instruments, sutures, sterile drapes, and equipment according to surgical protocols.
  • Assist During Surgery: Pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures, anticipating their needs to ensure efficiency.
  • Sterile Field Maintenance: Maintain a sterile environment by monitoring patient temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate, and ensuring proper positioning and draping.
  • Specimen Management: Properly label and transport tissue specimens to the pathology department for analysis.
  • Instrument Care: Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to ensure nothing is left in the patient.
  • Postoperative Care: Assist with moving patients to recovery rooms and ensuring the operating room is cleaned and restocked for the next procedure.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with the nursing staff, anesthesiologists, and surgeons regarding patient status and surgical needs.

Qualifications

  • Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification required.
