Responsibilities
- Prepare Operating Rooms: Set up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies prior to procedures, ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Maintain Sterile Field: Strictly adhere to aseptic techniques to prevent infections and ensure patient safety throughout the surgical process.
- Assist Surgeons: Pass instruments and materials to surgeons and first assistants, retract tissues, and hold retractors as directed.
- Count Supplies: Accurately count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgical procedures to ensure nothing is left in the patient.
- Patient Care: Monitor patient vital signs during surgery and communicate any changes to the anesthesia team or charge nurse.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use, ensuring proper disposal of contaminated materials.
- Documentation: Accurately document patient information and surgical procedures in medical records.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is preferred.
- Certification: Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the NBSTSA or equivalent certification (e.g., Tech in Surgery - CST) required.
- Licensure: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working as a Surgical Technician in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center setting.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, and sterilization techniques. Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and patients in a high-pressure environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move patients and equipment, and work in various lighting conditions.
