Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by arranging surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring sterility and functionality.
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and other sterile supplies.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments to maintain accurate records during surgical operations.
- Monitor patient vital signs and alert the surgical team of any abnormalities.
- Prepare patients for surgery by positioning them properly and washing and sterilizing incision sites.
- Apply sterile drapes and create sterile fields to maintain a safe surgical environment.
- Handle specimens accurately and assist in the closure of incisions.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or CST-EC (Certified Surgical First Assistant - Emergency Care) is required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital or surgical center setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, and medical terminology.
- Ability to stand for long periods and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
