Responsibilities
- Prepare sterile operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies according to procedure requirements.
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, retracting tissues, and ensuring optimal sterile field maintenance.
- Perform intraoperative counts of sponges, needles, and instruments to prevent retention in surgical sites.
- Apply sterile techniques and infection control protocols throughout all phases of perioperative care.
- Transport patients to/from operating rooms and position them appropriately for surgical access.
- Process and sterilize reusable surgical instruments following established protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures and inventory usage.
Qualifications
- Accredited Surgical Technology program graduate or equivalent military training required.
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential mandatory.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Minimum 1-year recent experience in acute care surgical setting preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of sterile processing and aseptic technique principles.
- Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
- Strong physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to function as part of a cohesive surgical team.
