Our facility performs 50+ surgical procedures weekly across specialties including orthopedics, neurosurgery, and general surgery. Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms with sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies according to surgical protocols
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and managing sterile fields
- Maintain sterile environments and implement infection control measures per OSHA/CDC guidelines
- Count and account for all instruments, sponges, and sharps before and after procedures
- Operate surgical equipment including cameras, electrosurgical units, and robotic systems
- Coordinate with sterile processing to ensure instrument availability and sterilization
- Document procedural events accurately in electronic health records
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent credential from NBSTSA
- Minimum 2 years of recent operating room experience in a Level 1 or 2 trauma center
- BLS/CPR certification required; ACLS preferred
- Proficiency in robotic surgical systems (da Vinci) preferred
- Knowledge of sterile processing standards (AAMI/ANSI)
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 50+ pounds
- Strong communication skills and ability to function in high-pressure environments
- Virginia Surgical Tech license in good standing
