Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms with sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies according to surgical protocols
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and managing sterile fields
  • Maintain sterile environments and implement infection control measures per OSHA/CDC guidelines
  • Count and account for all instruments, sponges, and sharps before and after procedures
  • Operate surgical equipment including cameras, electrosurgical units, and robotic systems
  • Coordinate with sterile processing to ensure instrument availability and sterilization
  • Document procedural events accurately in electronic health records

Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent credential from NBSTSA
