Responsibilities
- Preparation: Prepare operating rooms by arranging sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies prior to surgical procedures.
- Assistance: Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments and holding retractors, anticipating the surgeon's needs.
- Aseptic Technique: Maintain strict sterile field and adhere to infection control protocols to ensure patient safety.
- Inventory Management: Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedures to ensure nothing is left in the surgical wound.
- Patient Care: Monitor patient vital signs and report any abnormalities to the charge nurse or surgeon immediately.
- Documentation: Accurately transcribe physician orders and maintain accurate medical records.
Qualifications
- Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or similar credential required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital or surgical center setting.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical procedures, and sterilization techniques.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Software: Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and medical terminology.
