Responsibilities
- Assess and triage patient symptoms via phone, email, and secure messaging portals to determine the appropriate level of care.
- Make clinical decisions regarding patient disposition, including advising self-care, scheduling appointments, or activating emergency services.
- Coordinate care instructions with providers and specialty departments to ensure seamless transitions.
- Document all patient interactions and clinical findings accurately and promptly within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Provide patient education and health coaching to promote self-management and wellness.
- Monitor trends in patient calls to identify potential gaps in service or recurring issues for provider review.
- Collaborate with the nursing leadership team to continuously improve triage protocols and patient satisfaction scores.
Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Alaska.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience in a clinical setting, with specific experience in triage or urgent care preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate degree (ADN) accepted with relevant experience.
- Certification as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or Triage Nurse Certification (e.g., CPHON) is a strong plus.
- Proficient in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, specifically Epic or Cerner.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on patient empathy.
