Responsibilities
- Medication Dispensing: Accurately fill and dispense prescriptions according to legal and hospital protocols.
- IV Preparation: Prepare sterile intravenous medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, order pharmaceutical supplies, and maintain accurate records of drug usage.
- Prescription Verification: Review prescriptions for completeness, accuracy, and potential drug interactions.
- Patient Counseling: Provide basic medication information and answer questions regarding dosage and usage.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with state and federal regulations (e.g., DEA, FDA).
- Quality Assurance: Assist in the implementation of pharmacy quality improvement programs.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current certification as a Pharmacy Technician (PCBC, PTCB, or ExCPT) is required.
- Licensure: Active license to practice as a Pharmacy Technician in the District of Columbia.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program is preferred.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to perform repetitive tasks with high precision and minimal errors.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients and staff.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with pharmacy management software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift boxes of medical supplies weighing up to 25 lbs.
