Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare and submit medical claims to insurance carriers (CMS-1500 form) to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits to minimize claim denials.
- Review and follow up on unpaid claims and appeal rejected submissions.
- Manage patient billing inquiries and resolve account discrepancies efficiently.
- Maintain up-to-date patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with the coding team to ensure accurate documentation for billing purposes.
- Reconcile daily payments and post transactions to patient accounts.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software (e.g., AthenaHealth, Epic, or equivalent).
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a flexible, remote, or hybrid setting.
