Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with the highest level of precision and patient care.
- Verify patient identity and explain procedures to ensure patient comfort and cooperation.
- Label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory efficiently while adhering to strict chain-of-custody protocols.
- Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized work environment, including phlebotomy chairs and equipment.
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and lab personnel to resolve any specimen issues or discrepancies promptly.
- Document patient data accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and OSHA standards regarding infection control.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Certified Phlebotomy Specialist (CPS) required.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a hospital or high-volume lab setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to calm anxious patients.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs as necessary.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Proficiency with computer systems and electronic data entry.
