Responsibilities
- Perform Venipuncture: Safely draw blood samples using venipuncture and capillary collection techniques on patients of all ages.
- Patient Comfort: Calmly interact with patients, explain procedures, and minimize anxiety during the blood draw process.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, log, and process blood samples to ensure accuracy and chain of custody compliance.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean, sterilize, and maintain phlebotomy equipment and carts according to health and safety standards.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records and update medical histories as needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with nurses and lab technicians to ensure timely specimen delivery and processing.
Qualifications
- Certification: Must hold a valid Phlebotomy Technician certification (e.g., ASCP, NPA).
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience is highly preferred.
- Licensure: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain professional under pressure.
