Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with a focus on patient comfort and safety.
- Verify patient identities and accurately label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations, OSHA safety standards, and laboratory protocols.
- Greet patients, explain procedures, and answer questions to reduce anxiety and build trust.
- Manage inventory of supplies, ensuring phlebotomy stations are fully stocked and equipment is calibrated.
- Document all procedures accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Collaborate with nurses and physicians to ensure timely specimen collection and reporting.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification (e.g., ASCP, NHA, NCPT).
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred, but new graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients and staff.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Proficient in computer systems and electronic data entry.
