Responsibilities
- Claims Processing: Accurately verify, code, and submit medical claims to insurance carriers (Blue Cross, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, etc.) for timely reimbursement.
- Account Management: Manage patient accounts, including posting payments, adjusting balances, and sending statements to ensure collections.
- Insurance Verification: Perform proactive insurance verification and authorization checks prior to services to minimize claim denials.
- Denial Management: Analyze denied claims, identify root causes, and implement corrective action plans to reduce rejections.
- Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal compliance standards to protect patient privacy.
- Reporting: Assist in month-end reporting and provide data analysis on revenue cycle performance metrics.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing, Health Information Management, or related field preferred.
- Certification: CPC, CPC-H, CCA, or RHIT certification is highly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, claims processing, or medical coding.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Epic, Athenahealth, or Cerner EHR systems is a plus; strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines and medical terminology.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
