Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain sterile surgical environments and instrumentation
- Assist surgeons during procedures with precise instrument passing and equipment handling
- Manage surgical case supplies and inventory per department protocols
- Ensure proper sterilization and decontamination of equipment following OSHA standards
- Document surgical processes accurately in electronic health records
- Collaborate with anesthesia and nursing teams for seamless patient care
- Maintain patient safety and sterile field integrity throughout procedures
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent credential required
- Minimum 2 years recent OR experience in general surgery
- BLS certification and knowledge of sterile processing protocols
- Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and on-call
- Strong understanding of surgical instruments and equipment
- Excellent communication skills and team collaboration abilities
- Ability to thrive in high-pressure emergency surgical situations
- Valid Michigan healthcare professional license
