Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing equipment and arranging surgical instruments
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and maintaining sterile fields
- Count and document all surgical supplies before and after operations
- Monitor patient vital signs and provide direct assistance to surgical teams
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazard materials
- Maintain equipment functionality and sterilization protocols
- Collaborate with anesthesia and nursing staff for coordinated patient care
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent certification required
- Minimum 2 years of recent OR experience in a Level 1 trauma center
- Expertise in general surgery, orthopedics, and neurosurgical procedures
- Strong knowledge of sterile processing and infection control protocols
- BLS/CPR certification with current ACLS preferred
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Excellent communication skills and team collaboration abilities
- New York State surgical technologist license in good standing
