Responsibilities
- Verify and analyze patient insurance eligibility and benefits to ensure accurate billing.
- Prepare and submit medical claims (CMS-1500) to insurance payers electronically.
- Review and follow up on denied or rejected claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Maintain and update patient medical records and billing databases with precision.
- Communicate with patients and insurance companies regarding outstanding balances and payment plans.
- Reconcile daily banking and credit card transactions.
- Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes for the billing department.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- CPC, COC, or RHIT certification is a strong plus but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding (Baton Rouge preferred).
- Proficient knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth).
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
