Responsibilities
- Claims Processing: Accurately verify patient insurance eligibility and submit claims to commercial payers and Medicare/Medicaid using our EMR system.
- Code Management: Assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes to medical records and ensure documentation supports the billed services.
- Denial Management: Monitor claims status, identify denials, and work to appeal and resolve issues promptly to minimize revenue leakage.
- Account Reconciliation: Review and reconcile patient accounts, handle copays, deductibles, and statement inquiries professionally.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on HIPAA regulations and healthcare billing guidelines to ensure full compliance.
- Reporting: Assist in monthly financial reporting and providing feedback to the practice management team regarding billing trends.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) or Medical Billing preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing or a similar healthcare administrative role.
- Certifications: CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) is a major plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in EMR/EHR software (Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth experience is highly desirable).
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to spot errors and ensure data accuracy in high-volume environments.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients and insurance representatives.
