Responsibilities
- Accurate Claims Submission: Submit clean claims to insurance payers electronically and manually, ensuring 100% accuracy to minimize denials.
- Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services rendered to prevent claim rejections.
- Denial Management: Monitor accounts receivable, identify reasons for claim denials, and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Patient Invoicing: Prepare and send patient statements, explain billing statements, and facilitate payment collections.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient and financial records in the EHR system.
- Compliance: Adhere to HIPAA regulations and internal company policies regarding patient data privacy.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing, Health Information Technology, or related field preferred.
- Certification: CPC, CRC, or RHIT certification is a major plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in medical billing software (e.g., AthenaHealth, Epic, Cerner) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients and insurance representatives.
