Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient insurance information and eligibility to ensure accurate billing.
- Submit claims to insurance payers (including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurers) electronically and via paper.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and appeal denials to maximize revenue collection.
- Communicate with patients and insurance representatives to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Ensure all billing practices comply with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records within the billing software.
- Train new staff on billing protocols and software usage.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing or Health Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, coding, or revenue cycle management.
- Certification such as CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or COC is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and billing software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner).
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with flexible scheduling options.
