Responsibilities
- Claims Management: Accurately verify, code, and submit medical claims to insurance payers (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial) in a timely manner to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Patient Billing: Process patient invoices, handle collections, and communicate effectively with patients regarding their financial responsibilities and outstanding balances.
- Insurance Verification: Conduct thorough eligibility and benefits verification for new and existing patients prior to services to prevent claim denials.
- Account Reconciliation: Monitor accounts receivable, identify discrepancies, and resolve billing issues or denials through appeals processes.
- Compliance & Audits: Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal auditing standards to ensure data accuracy and financial integrity.
- Documentation: Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all billing transactions and patient interactions within the EHR system.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Certification: Certified Medical Billing Specialist (CMBS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is highly desired.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner) and medical billing software.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding guidelines, and federal/state healthcare billing regulations.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical problem-solving abilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
