Responsibilities
- Verify patient demographics and insurance eligibility to ensure accurate billing.
- Prepare and submit medical claims (CMS-1500) to insurance payers electronically.
- Follow up on denied and unpaid claims, managing appeals and resubmissions.
- Reconcile daily payments and post charges to patient accounts.
- Maintain accurate billing records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance companies regarding billing inquiries.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing/Coding preferred.
- CPC or COC certification is a plus but not mandatory.
- 1-3 years of experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Proficiency with medical billing software (Epic, AthenaHealth, or Cerner).
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a high-volume setting.
