Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and collect necessary demographic information prior to services rendered.
- Submit accurate and timely claims to commercial insurance carriers and government payers (Medicare/Medicaid).
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements to identify underpayments, overpayments, and denials.
- Manage the appeals process for denied claims and work towards resolution.
- Perform regular account reconciliations and maintain accurate patient billing records.
- Communicate with patients regarding financial responsibilities and outstanding balances.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems and practice management software to track billing status.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Certification as a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) or CPC is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Proficiency in medical billing software (e.g., AthenaHealth, Epic, or similar).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to detect errors and discrepancies.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
