Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to rendering services.
- Accurately submit and follow up on medical claims (HCPCS, ICD-10) to insurance carriers via electronic clearinghouses.
- Research and resolve denials, rejections, and underpayments to maximize revenue collection.
- Generate and mail patient statements, explaining billing codes and payment plans to ensure transparency.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient financial records in our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Communicate effectively with patients, insurance providers, and internal staff regarding account status and outstanding balances.
- Stay current with changing healthcare regulations, billing codes, and payer policies.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration is preferred.
- CPC, COC, or CMRS certification is a plus but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Proficiency with medical billing software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining clear communication.
