Responsibilities
- Accurately verify patient demographics and medical records to ensure correct billing information.
- Submit medical claims to insurance carriers using both paper (CMS-1500) and electronic (837) formats.
- Monitor the status of claims and follow up diligently on unpaid or denied claims to secure reimbursement.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements to identify errors and discrepancies.
- Maintain and organize accurate billing records and patient files in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with patients and insurance representatives to resolve billing issues.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; Associate degree in Medical Billing or Coding is preferred.
- Certification (CPC, CPC-A, CPB, or CEM) is a plus but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on experience in medical billing or medical coding.
- Proficiency in medical billing software such as Epic, Athenahealth, or Cerner.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
